You’ve probably heard Bill Gates famous quote, “Content is king.” But what does that really mean to you as a business owner? How can you effectively use content to attract new prospects to your business? How can you maximize your content so it gets you actual results?
Let’s start by defining what content marketing is. Here’s a description from one of my favorite websites, copyblogger.com, “Content Marketing means creating and sharing valuable free content to attract and convert prospects into customers, and customers into repeat buyers. The type of content you share is closely related to what you sell; in other words, you’re educating people so that they know, like, and trust you enough to do business with you.”
So you’re actually experiencing content marketing right now! I’m sharing with you – for free – valuable information related to my services.
Do you have a content marketing strategy in place? Is it working effectively? Here are three things you need to look at to be successful:
The right people – make sure you’re connecting with your ideal client. This is the cornerstone if you really want to use your content to attract prospects. Do you know the demographics of your target market? Do you know what their biggest challenges are? Do you know what keeps them up at night? If you’re not zeroing in on what your audience needs, even well-crafted content will get you nowhere.
The right path – use the right PR and social media strategies to get noticed. If you know who your ideal client is then you should also know where they go to get information. Which media do they listen to, watch or read? Do they spend time on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc? These are the places where you want to show up sharing your valuable content. Then the key is to have a compelling message in place that will not only get them to notice you but to take it a step further and learn more about your products and/or services.
The right destination – share great content on your own real estate (website). Now before you get busy tweeting you need to have somewhere to send people. Do you have a website? Do you have a blog that utilizes keywords to attract clients that are looking for answers? Can potential clients read articles or watch videos on your site so they can get to know, like and trust you? Once they get to your website can they sign-up for a free offer or newsletter so that you can continue sharing solutions with them? Just don’t get so caught up with the latest internet marketing craze that you neglect your most important marketing asset – your website.
